Revelstoke Art Inspiration:

The inspiration for Reflections in the Selkirks painting came from an epic day in the Selkirk mountains in a secret undisclosed location north of Revelstoke, BC. The GPS coordinates are hidden in the painting for those with a keen eye & an adventurous heart. A spectacular mountain lake experience you will never forget! This painting was a custom commission project created in February 2023 as a thank you for a generous $3,000 donation from Mike & Lisa Conlan to support the Central Okanagan Hospice Association (COHA) & Jaxon’s Swinging with the Stars Campaign (event Feb 25, 2023).

LOCAL HISTORY:
Paralleled by the Monashee and Purcell Ranges, the Selkirk Range is located to the the East of the Columbia River and west of the Purcell Trench in the centre what is commonly know as the Columbia Mountain group. Stretching from Kinbasket Lake to the Idaho Panhandle, geologic uplifting & erosion began 400 million years ago. These mountains are older than the neighbouring Western Rockies and are defined by high peaks towering above valley bottoms with upwards of 9500 ft relief between the highest peak (11,555 ft) and the valley floor. With some of the finest alpine scenery in North America, the Canadian Government set aside Glacier National Parks & Revelstoke National Park in 1886 and 1914 in a historic efforts to preserve unique mountain flora and fauna. Rich in history, the Sinixt First Nation lived on the Columbia River and its tributaries of thousands of years before some of the first settlers arrived via routes on the Columbia. After the gold rush the Columbia River was often the only means of getting around the Selkirk range until the development of Rogers Pass which finalized the Canadian Pacific Railway route (later Trans Canada Highway) and united Canada Coast to Coast in 1885. Today, these spectacular mountains & glaciers are a natural playground for hikers, skiers, mountaineers and outdoor enthusiasts alike!

If you have been following Jaxon for a while you may recognize this piece as an updated version of one of his first ever award winning originals which remains in his Family’s private collection.
